How do I get started with counseling at Meadowbrook?

Getting started is simple. Fill out our contact form or call us at (304) 975-9865. We will reach out within one business day to schedule your first appointment. There is no commitment required — your first session is a chance to see if we are the right fit for you.

What can I expect during my first session?

Your first session is a chance for us to get to know you. We will talk about what brings you in, your history, and your goals. There is no pressure to share more than you are comfortable with. By the end, we will have a clearer picture of how we can best support you and what a path forward might look like.

Question 3

Do I need a referral to schedule an appointment?

Accepted Answer

No referral is needed. You can contact us directly to schedule. If your insurance requires a referral, we recommend checking with your provider beforehand, but most plans we accept do not require one.

Question 4

How long are counseling sessions?

Accepted Answer

Standard individual sessions are 50–60 minutes. Couples sessions may run slightly longer depending on the work being done. Clinical supervision sessions are billed by the hour.

What insurance plans does Meadowbrook Counseling accept?

Accepted Answer

We accept Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield (BCBS), UMR/PEIA, Peak Health, The Health Plan, and UPMC. If you do not see your plan listed, contact us — coverage options change and we are happy to verify your benefits.

Question 6

What if I do not have insurance or my plan is not accepted?

Accepted Answer

We offer a sliding scale fee for clients without coverage or whose insurance we do not accept. We believe cost should not be a barrier to care. Please mention this when you reach out and we will work with you to find an arrangement that fits your situation.

How do I know if my insurance will cover counseling?

The best way is to call the member services number on the back of your insurance card and ask about your mental health or behavioral health benefits. Ask about your deductible, copay, and whether outpatient therapy is covered. You can also mention your insurance provider in your message to us and we will help confirm coverage before your first session.

Does Meadowbrook accept Medicaid or Medicare?

We do not currently accept Medicaid or Medicare. If you have questions about coverage or need help finding a provider who accepts these plans, please reach out and we will do our best to point you in the right direction.

What issues does Meadowbrook Counseling treat?

We specialize in anxiety and stress, trauma and PTSD, addiction recovery, couples counseling, depression, and grief and loss. Our approach is personalized — we tailor treatment to your specific needs rather than applying a one-size-fits-all method.

What is EMDR therapy and is it right for me?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy shown to be highly effective for trauma and PTSD. It works by helping the brain reprocess distressing memories so they lose their emotional charge. If you have experienced trauma and feel stuck, EMDR may be a powerful option. We will discuss whether it is a good fit during your initial sessions.

Do you offer couples counseling?

Yes. We offer couples counseling using the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), two of the most research-supported approaches for improving relationships. Whether you are navigating conflict, rebuilding trust, or simply wanting to strengthen your connection, we can help.

Do you work with teens or young adults?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we work with adolescents and young adults in addition to adult clients. If you are a parent seeking support for your teenager, please reach out and we can discuss whether our services are a good fit.

Question 13

Do you offer telehealth (online) counseling?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We offer both in-person sessions at our Bridgeport, WV office and telehealth sessions via secure video. Telehealth is available to clients located in West Virginia and Pennsylvania. Many clients find the flexibility of telehealth makes it easier to stay consistent with their care.

Is telehealth as effective as in-person therapy?

Research consistently shows that telehealth therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy for most conditions, including anxiety, depression, and trauma. The most important factor is the quality of the therapeutic relationship — and that can be built just as well over video.

Where is your office located?

Our office is located at 1400 Johnson Ave, Suite 1C, Bridgeport, WV 26330. We serve clients throughout North Central West Virginia, including Clarksburg, Bridgeport, Weston, and surrounding communities.

Question 16

Do you offer clinical supervision for social workers?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We offer LICSW supervision for licensed social workers working toward independent licensure in West Virginia. Supervision sessions are $80 per hour. We also offer private practice consulting for clinicians building or growing their own practice.

Who is eligible for clinical supervision at Meadowbrook?

Accepted Answer

Supervision is available to licensed social workers (LSW) in West Virginia who are working toward their LICSW. If you are unsure whether you qualify, reach out and we can discuss your situation.
